NZ Diploma in Engineering (Level 6)

Academic entry requirements include:

NCEA Level 2 including a minimum of 10 literacy credits at Level 1 or above (for those who have achieved Level 2 before 2013) and

  • A minimum total of 48 credits at level 2 in four subjects including at least 12 credits in mathematics (preferably achievement standards in algebra, calculus or trigonometry), or
  • equivalent qualifications (eg International Baccalaureate or Cambridge), or
  • equivalent credits from appropriate trades training and/or demonstrated skills and experience.

 In addition to meeting the minimum entry criteria, those applicants for whom English is a second language must meet the IELTS overall language requirement:

Overall band Score (Academic) of 6.0 IELTS, with no individual score less than 5.5, or a Pearson Test with overall score of 50 and above, or equivalent.

 Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunications (Level 7)

Academic entry requirements include:

  • Minimum of a Level 5 qualification in the field of electronics/ telecommunications , or equivalent knowledge and skills
  • Evidence of a minimum of 8 literacy credits at Level 2 or higher in English or Reo Maori (4 credits must be in reading and 4 credits must be in writing or equivalent to both the above)


If the applicant is a domestic student whose age is less than 20 years old:


If an applicant has English as a second language or is an International Student, evidence of the following must be provided:

  • IELTS overall band score of at least 6.0 (Academic), or
  • TOEFL score of 550, or
  • Pearson Test with overall score of 50 and above
  • If evidence is unclear, applicants will be required to complete an English Entry Test.
