Aspire2 International’s first-class reputation was a big drawcard for 21-year-old business student Bernice. With her sights set on becoming a certified accountant for one of New Zealand’s top accounting firms, she was determined to learn from the best, every step of the way.
Why did you choose Aspire2 International?
I’ve lived in New Zealand for the last five years and have friends who had studied at Aspire2. Their glowing testimonials – plus the fact that the school has a ‘highly confident’ rating from NZQA – convinced me that it was the best place to start my career.
I’ve enjoyed every moment of it, from the lectures and interactions with my tutors, to hanging out with friends from different countries and cultures. The campus is a vibrant, positive place to be, full of wonderful, diverse students. The staff and tutors are very approachable and always willing to help. Tutors work hard to ensure we understand our lectures and they provide practical exercises to help us enhance our industry knowledge. They do their very best to make sure students are thoroughly equipped for their future career goals.
What are some of the most valuable things you have learnt?
The NZ Diploma in Business has helped me acquire an excellent foundation knowledge of New Zealand’s business sector. Every lesson is interesting and helps me build my industry expertise. Most importantly, I’ve learnt to never be afraid of making mistakes. I have come to understand that no one is perfect and there is always room for improvement!
Have you managed to gain any industry experience yet?
Yes! I am currently working as a volunteer financial assistant for Christ New Creation International. Although the role is unpaid, it is providing me with invaluable experience. The accounting papers I have been studying at Aspire2 International are proving very helpful at work, as they have helped me develop a good understanding of how an organisation handles its finances.
What are your plans after you graduate?
I graduate from Level 5 in September this year and am planning to pathway onto another business programme majoring in accounting. My long term goal is to become a certified accountant and eventually work for one of New Zealand’s top accounting firms.
So, no plans to move back to the Philippines?
No! Living in New Zealand has been one of the greatest things that has happened in my life. I was given the chance to live in a peaceful place, where life is simple – a place where people are treated equally whether they’re rich or poor. Living in New Zealand is magnificent!
